One for Ishtar.

Ishtar was the god of love and war above all associated with sexuality: her cult involved sacred prostitution; her holy city Uruk was called the “town of the sacred courtesans”; and she herself was the “courtesan of the gods”. wiki.

The video probably would have been better miss-understood in the 1980’s when art history and comparative religion were still taught in school. They even used to teach spelling.

“And as I watched you disappear into the ground

My one mistake was that I couldn’t let you down…”

A stretch to jump from that lyric to the Last Supper, but maybe Taylor’s harlot/stripper, rock goddess persona is a contemporary incarnation of Isis, and therefore Mary Magdalene.

Magdalene was a prostitute, and Jesus’s best friend” by all accounts. In the gospel he even kisses her on the mouth. The horror.

The premise here is that this is actually the Supper After The Last Supper. Jesus’ chair is empty, as he is in the tomb. The disciples came back here because they had nowhere else to go. The clues are there. The Magdalene is angry, mostly at herself, and of course being possessed by seven devils, doesn’t help ones “behavior” at the best of times.

The background is populated with a few christ-like figures from the psychedelic era, relevant mostly to myself and the band. Lennon, Chaplin, Hendrix etc. They more or less got lost in the edit, like some other stuff that might have made the video more interesting to anyone with an education.

Nowadays, from the YouTube comments anyway, all people seem to see is a table and some weird people, and Taylor’s shocking possessed, behavior of course.

They still mostly seem to like it so:  “whatever”, I guess. As long as they are shocked.

Children are being deprived of the skills to read myth, and that causes psychological blindness. This is intentional.

Treatment:

Its always a battle between what you have in your mind and what is possible on the day. Making videos is a collaboration. There’s the band, the record company, the crew, the logistics, and the budget. Each has a valid point of view and a voice that needs to be heard. You get to the set with whatever preparation , experience and support you can muster. Then its like riding a wild animal. There are a thousand calculations per second.
